October 12th, 2005 marks the 513th anniversary of Columbus' daring voyage across the Ocean Sea. From October 1 through 15, join our staff and tour guides who will assume roles of some of Columbus' original crew on board the Pinta and Santa Maria. Learn about this historic voyage from the viewpoint of crew members who sailed with Columbus. We will highlight navigation techniques, by using a capstan for lifting and a tiller and rudder for steering. Scouts, students, and other young visitors will be rewarded for their work with a replica "coin of the realm".
Saturday activities will include programs on the art of knot tying, arms and armor, cooking on board, and tales of Sailors and Sea monsters. Children's crafts will include making a paper sailing ship, solar stone, and a pocket sundial.
Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and Noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.
